One system for safe bunkering of ammonia and beyond

Ammonia is rapidly emerging as a key zero-carbon marine fuel, but its toxicity and handling risks demand a fundamentally different approach to bunkering. Exposure to hazardous vapors, combined with dynamic offshore conditions, makes manual operations at the vessel interface increasingly untenable.

AutoBunker is built on our developed kinematic maritime robotics platform in which core technologies including robotic placing, motion compensation, QC/DC connection handling and AI-based targeting are already engineered and aligned

These capabilities enable controlled interaction at the vessel interface, from initial positioning to final connection, without reliance on manual handling.

Rather than a conceptual approach, AutoBunker is structured as an integration-ready solution. The platform  provides a clear pathway toward deployment in real-world bunkering operations in collaboration with industry partners.

Safe bunkering in hazardous fuel environments

Bunkering operations involving hazardous and low-flashpoint fuels introduce significant safety risks. Exposure to volatile substances, confined spaces and dynamic offshore conditions increases the likelihood of incidents, particularly when manual handling is required at the vessel interface.

As the industry transitions toward alternative fuels such as LNG, methanol, ammonia and hydrogen, the need to reduce human exposure and improve control over bunkering operations becomes critical.

Remote and autonomous operation

The system is designed to operate either remotely or fully autonomously, depending on operational requirements. Operators can supervise and control the bunkering process from a safe, remote location, eliminating direct exposure to hazardous environments.

In autonomous mode, AutoBunker executes predefined operational sequences using integrated sensors, targeting systems and control logic. This enables consistent and repeatable performance while reducing reliance on manual intervention in safety-critical procedures.

Partnering for integration

AutoBunker is positioned for integration into operational environments. The next phase focuses on collaboration with partners to implement and validate the system in real-world bunkering scenarios.

This includes working with shipowners, fuel suppliers and technology providers to align the system with operational requirements and accelerate deployment. The objective is to establish a new standard for safe, unmanned and scalable bunkering operations.
